Duke Receives $15M Grant to Develop AI for Early Prediction of Adolescent Mental Illness

Researchers at Duke University secured a $15 million federal grant to expand an AI model, Duke-PMA, that predicts mental illness in adolescents before symptoms appear. The tool leverages behavioral, emotional, and clinical data to identify at-risk individuals with 84% accuracy, without needing costly tests. The next stage involves testing the model in 2,000 youth across rural U.S. clinics, especially where mental health care access is limited.
