Waymo Secures California Approval for Robotaxi Expansion in San Francisco Bay Area

Alphabet's autonomous driving unit, Waymo, has received approval from the California Public Utilities Commission to expand its robotaxi services across the San Francisco Peninsula and into San Jose. The March application garnered 23 supportive responses and no objections. Despite the green light, Waymo plans a gradual rollout without an immediate timeline. This development coincides with Tesla's upcoming robotaxi launch in Austin, Texas, and potential expansion into California later this year.
