EV Crash: Volkswagen to Ax 100,000 Jobs and Close Four Plants

In the most radical overhaul of its 89-year history, Volkswagen plans to eliminate 100,000 jobs—roughly 15% of its global workforce—and shut down four German manufacturing plants. The automaker is also slashing its research budget by 15%. The drastic restructuring comes as rising Chinese electric vehicle rivals rapidly eat into Volkswagen's market share both in China and Europe.
