EU’s Chat Control Bill Threatens End-to-End Encryption Across Messaging Apps
Surfshark’s latest study reveals that 90% of popular messaging apps, including Signal and Apple Messages, use end-to-end encryption (E2E). However, the EU’s proposed Chat Control legislation could undermine this security by requiring message scanning or lawful access to private communications. Surfshark CEO Vytautas Kaziukonis warns that weakening encryption could expose users to cyber risks, erode digital trust, and set a dangerous global precedent for online privacy.
