India Proposes Online Assistive Technology Portal to Improve Access

The Indian government has drafted rules to launch an online “Assistive Technology Portal” for streamlined certification, procurement, tracking, distribution, and grievance redressal of assistive devices. The rules classify devices into essential, specialized, and emerging categories, all of which must meet BIS standards. Subsidies, insurance support, a helpline, and safety-incident monitoring are also part of the proposed framework.
