Meta Reappoints Robert Fergus to Lead FAIR Lab, Aiming to Advance AI Research

Meta has reappointed Robert Fergus, a co-founder of its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab and former Google DeepMind research director, as the head of FAIR. Fergus succeeds Joelle Pineau and is tasked with steering Meta's AI research, including projects like Llama 1 and Llama 2. His return comes amid a period of transition, with many researchers moving to startups or Meta’s newer GenAI group.
