SC Warning Exposes Gaps in Cyberlaws Amid 'Digital Arrest' Scams

The Supreme Court has flagged the severe threat of "digital arrest" scams, where fraudsters use deepfakes and forged judicial orders to extort money, often from senior citizens. Experts warn that India's obsolete legal framework, primarily the IT Act, 2000, is ill-equipped to handle such sophisticated, AI-driven digital impersonation, which erodes public trust in the judiciary and law enforcement.
