Unredacted US court filings allege that Meta suppressed its own 2020 "Project Mercury" internal research, which found a causal link between deactivating Facebook use and lower feelings of depression, anxiety, and social comparison. The document, part of a class action by school districts, claims Meta dismissed the negative findings and told Congress it couldn't quantify harm, despite internal staff validating the conclusions.
