Vyomitra Humanoid Robot Joins India’s Gaganyaan Mission as “Space Friend”

ISRO is gearing up to deploy Vyomitra, a half-humanoid robot, in its uncrewed Gaganyaan G1 mission (planned December 2025), to simulate an astronaut’s role. The AI-enabled robot, developed by the Inertial Systems Unit, will monitor cabin conditions, operate control panels, conduct microgravity experiments, and communicate with ground control in Hindi and English. Its successful performance will pave the way for safer crewed spaceflights.
