Anthropic Loses Key Revenue Stream as Microsoft Switches Defaults to OpenAI

Microsoft has made OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 the default model for internal engineers, dealing another blow to Anthropic. Previously, GitHub Copilot automatically routed vast coding workloads to Anthropic's Claude. After cutting Claude Code usage in May, Microsoft's new policy shifts default traffic away from Anthropic to control runaway AI costs and prioritize impact per token, cutting off a massive, automated stream of paid Claude usage.
