California Gives 800,000 Uber & Lyft Drivers Right to Unionize

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a landmark law empowering over 800,000 Uber and Lyft drivers to form unions and demand collective bargaining, while they remain classified as independent contractors. The deal includes reduced mandatory insurance burdens for rideshare firms. Worker advocates call it the largest expansion of private-sector bargaining rights in state history.
