UPI Goes Global: 35 Million NRIs to Power India’s Digital Payment Expansion

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) plans to expand UPI into 15–20 international markets over the next decade. By leveraging India's 35-million-strong diaspora and over $155 billion in annual remittances, NPCI aims to scale its international footprint. Already active in nine countries, NPCI is in talks with Japan, Malaysia, and Bahrain, while also exploring AI-driven integrations.
