India Must Build Sovereign AI to Protect National Security and Governance

IAS officer Abhishek Chourasiya argues that India must pursue AI sovereignty by building homegrown capabilities across governance, defense, and welfare to avoid foreign dependency and coercion. Citing Estonia’s digital transformation as an example, he recommends establishing a dedicated AI agency to oversee secure data infrastructure, in-house model and chip development, and skilled manpower. This systemic adoption of AI across public systems is vital for achieving Viksit Bharat 2047.
