Metal Boxes Meet Mud: Wallmakers Unveils Eco-Friendly Container Restaurant

Indian architecture studio Wallmakers has transformed 12 discarded shipping containers into the Petti Restaurant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. Facing a narrow site, the architects welded the containers vertically to maximize ceiling height. To tackle the intense tropical heat trapped by the steel, they wrapped the exterior in an insulating, perforated layer of poured earth, slashing air conditioning loads by 38%.
