Soft Landing? Microsoft Softens the Blow With 39-Week Severance Packages Following AI Shifts

Following its announcement to slash 4,800 jobs (around 2.1% of its global workforce), Microsoft is rolling out its severance details for laid-off US employees. Most workers will remain on payroll for 60 days before transitioning to a package offering up to 39 weeks of base pay, depending on seniority. Eligible staff will also receive continued stock vesting for up to a year and six months of paid health insurance.
