The Bridge is Broken: Google Drive Halts Automatic Photos Desktop Backup

Starting August 10, 2026, the Google Drive desktop app will stop automatically backing up computer folders directly to Google Photos. Existing backed-up media remains safe, and standard file syncing will continue. However, to maintain automatic desktop backups, users must manually configure folders directly within the Google Photos web interface. Mobile app backups are completely unaffected.
