Nike’s High-Stakes Gamble: Banning Third-Party Online Sales in China

Following eight consecutive quarters of declining Chinese sales, Nike will strip online selling rights from major retail partners in Greater China starting January 1. To stop rampant heavy discounting, restore its premium brand image, and take on fast-growing local rivals, the sportswear giant will shift its digital sales exclusively to Nike-owned channels alongside launching locally designed collections.
